Basel Land is the other half canton of Switzerland (Basel Stadt is the first half canton). Basel Land covers an area running east, south and west of Basel Stadt toward the Jura in the west and south, sharing the border with France in the West.

Situated in the hills behind Arlesheim. This former castle fortress on the main trade route into central Switzerland is now maintained by the local council. |

| Schloss Reichenstein.
Located to the north in the same ridge of hills as Schloss Birseck. The Schloss is one imposing tower with only a very small courtyard at the front (facing the valley to the west).
